German Amazon reseller says the publisher withdrew the Civilization VII Switch cartridge, the game used by CivSwitch
On Nov 5, 2026, Notebookcheck reported that an Amazon reseller in Germany told a buyer it could not deliver the Civilization VII cartridge for Switch 1. According to the message, shared on Reddit by user MaruluVR, the publisher withdrew the physical version (the cartridge) due to technical and security-related requirements. The reseller offered to swap it for the Switch 2 code-in-a-box version (a box that only contains a code to download the game), which includes the upgrade, or to cancel the order with a refund. Other Reddit users also report cancellations.

Context
The information comes from a reseller: there is no official statement from 2K or Nintendo, and, according to Notebookcheck, it is unclear whether Nintendo asked 2K for anything; Nintendo has not commented. The homebrew community links the timing to the release of Gezine's CivSwitch on Nov 1, and the article says the cartridge has sold for higher prices on eBay since then. The cartridge matters because CivSwitch uses a flaw in the game's multiplayer chat to run code on Switch 2, only at the app level (userland), and, according to the author, it depends on the physical Switch 1 edition at version 1.0.0; the digital version does not work. Switch2Unlock does not provide games, keys or firmware and does not encourage buying the game.
